Coaching yourself , mutiple talents, more choices ..
I've been busy working on a number of projects recently including some leadership and coaching for a well known bank...We have been working/delivering Emotional Intelligence, this reminded me that Howard Gardiner professor at Harvard was one of the originatorsof dispelling the myth that intelligence is fixed. So often we have a limited view of "intelligence" perpetuated by traditional schooling . Education certianly mine perpetuated the thinking that "left brain " was the only way to succeed in the world. many of my clients in the world of Private Equity and accountancy benefit from a "list" that Gardner created around talents.
Musical Intrapersonal Naturalist Interpersonal Body -kinasthetic Emotional Linguistic Logical Spatial/visual.....Yes the vailidity of some of the "talents" could be debated , however the value of cosidering this model is thta it allows human talent to be analysed , the more you analyse in detail what a talent might consist of the more you open up options and choices for yourself and for others...
Example Langauage divided into writing, reading, influencing, coaching and so on.
For anyone in coaching this is great as it means you can think of more ways in which your players nd learners are talented and you can be more creative about how you unlock potential by incorporating more variations and distinctions of talent.
